Add page numbers
Number the pages of a PDF, with a live preview so you can see where they land before you save. It all happens in your browser, so your file never leaves this device.

How to add page numbers to a PDF
- Drop the PDF onto the box above, or press “Choose a PDF file”.
- Choose where the numbers go and how they look, such as “Page 1 of 10”. The preview shows the result as you change it.
- Set the text size, the distance from the edge and the number to start at. Tick the box if the first page is a cover that should stay bare.
- Press “Add numbers & download”.
What Add page numbers does
Numbering the pages of a PDF that does not have numbers: a merged bundle, a scanned set, a contract that has to be referred to page by page in a meeting.
What it does
- Draws the numbers as real text, so they stay sharp and are searchable
- Lets you choose the corner, the style, the size, and the number to start counting from
- Skips the first pages you nominate, for covers and title pages
- Places numbers correctly on rotated pages
What it does not do
- Move your existing content out of the way, so pick a corner that is free
- Renumber anything already printed on the page

Our sister site QRSansar hosts a document and gives you a short link and a QR code for it. That is handy for WhatsApp, a slide, a poster or a printed handout, and it avoids attachment size limits entirely. You can swap the file later and the link and QR code keep working.
Worth being clear about the difference: that is a hosting service, so your file is uploaded to it. Everything on PDFsansar stays on your device; sharing is the one job that cannot.

Add page numbers: common questions
Are the numbers real text or a picture?
Real text, drawn into the page as a normal layer. They stay sharp at any zoom, they print cleanly, and a search for a page number finds it.
Can I start numbering from something other than 1?
Yes. Set the starting number, which is what you want when the document is one part of a larger set. You can also leave the first pages blank so a cover or title page is skipped.
Will the numbers cover up my content?
They are drawn on top and nothing moves out of the way, so if your pages already have footers, choose a corner that is free. The preview shows roughly where the number lands.
Do the numbers land correctly on rotated pages?
Yes. The position is worked out in the space you actually see, so a sideways page gets its number the right way up in the corner you picked.
